Community Conversation: Race, Policing and Human Rights

Across the nation people are calling attention to systemic racism, historic oppression and the unrealized promise of the civil and human rights struggles that date back to the founding of the nation.

How is this discussion playing out in Longmont? What is daily life like here in Longmont for Black, Latino, Indigenous and other people of color? When we hear talk about defunding or reforming the police, what would that mean?

That’s the focus of “Community Conversation: A discussion about race, policing and civil rights” featuring Minister Glenda Robinson, member of the Longmont Multicultural Action Committee and founder of the annual Dr Martin Luther King Jr legacy celebration in Longmont, and Public Safety Chief Mike Butler and moderated by Macie May, editor, Longmont Leader and Liz Smokowski, chief executive officer of the Longmont Humane Society.

The Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with The Longmont Leader and Longmont Public Media to co-host this timely community conversation. The conversation will be livestreamed from the LPM studios via Crowdcast.
